Drakonis are a band from Northern Ireland that plays a contemporary mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2017 ep "The Great Miasma" which will be rleeased in December by Hostile Media.
Whispers along with some ritualistic sounds start off the ep before going into more of a heavy and melodic musical direction while the solos and leads also use a great amount of melody and after awhile grim yet high pitched black metal screams start to make their presence known.
Atmospheric synths can also be heard briefly while the tremolo picking and blast beats in the faster sections of the songs gives the music more of a raw black metal feeling along with the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and death metal growls are also used briefly.
A great amount of death metal elements are also mixed into some of the riffing while spoken word parts can also be heard briefly along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and the last track is very long and epic in length as well as bringing in a brief use of acoustic guitars.
Drakonis plays a musical style that takes a contemporary form of black metal and mixes it with death metal to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism and Human Sacrifice themes.
In my opinion Drakonis are a very great sounding contemporary mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Queen Of Swarms". 8 out of 10.
