Wending Tide are a band from New Zealand that plays an atmospheric form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2017 ep "The Painter" which will be released on November 25th by Naturmacht Productions.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the ep along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams as well as the music also being very heavily influenced by the Cascadian style of the genre and the solos and leads a re done in a very melodic style
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while also mixing in elements of post metal and tragic sounding keyboards can also be heard briefly while the main focus remains more on a very raw and atmospheric style of black metal and acoustic guitars are added onto the closing track.
Wending Tide plays a style of post black metal that is very atmospheric while also being very raw and aggressive at the same time, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover human emotions, sadness, joy, love and longing themes.
In my opinion Wending Tide are a very great sounding atmospheric post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Painter" and "Pastel Light". 8 out of 10.
