This is a review of a split album between Sweden's Regnvm Animale and Iceland's Norn called "Brinna/Brenna" which will be released on January 26th by Deutsche Bulvan Bolag and we will start off the review with Regnvm Animale a band that plays a very raw and melodic mixture of black metal and crust.
Their side of the split starts out with acoustic guitar playing along with some spoken word parts a few seconds later before going into a heavier direction along with some melodic riffing while the vocals mix black metal style screams with a more crust style of shouting as well as the solos and leads being very melodic.
All of the musical instruments on their side of the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the tremolo picking gives the songs a more raw feeling along with some of the vocals also adding in a dsbm style and when the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats can be heard and pianos as well as melodic vocals can also be heard briefly on the closing track.
Regnvm Animale plays a musical style that takes melodic and depressive black metal and mixes it with crust punk to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics are written in Swedish and cover freedom, alienation, premises of being human and the state of society today.
In my opinion Regnvm Animale are a very great sounding melodic mixture of black metal and crust punk and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Forhoppning" and "I Doden".
Next up is Norn a band that plays a raw mixture of black metal and crust punk.
Their side of t he split starts out with atmospheric soundscapes, harsh noises and spoken word parts before adding in some heavy riffing along with some tortured black metal vocals and screams while the tremolo picking gives the songs a more raw feeling while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Elements of crust can also be heard in the bands musical style while the faster sections of the songs bring in a small amount of blast beats along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic fashion when they are utilized and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and acoustic guitars as well as some clean vocals are also added on the closing track.
Norn plays a musical style that takes black metal and crust punk and mixes them together to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover poetry, history, mythology and anti fascism themes.
In my opinion Norn are a very great sounding mixture of black metal and crust and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hvitar Kjukur" and "Av Svortum Alfum Og Opum Peirra".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and would recommend it to all fans of black metal and crust. 8 out of 10.
