Ljain are a solo project from Iceland that plays a very raw form of occult black metal and this is a review of his 2018 compilation "Endasalmar og klofnar tungur" which will be released in April by Signal Rex and consists of the 2016 ep's "Endasalmar" and "Klofnar Tungur".
Ritualistic synths start off the compilation before going into a heavier direction while the faster sections of the songs bring in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music a more raw feeling along with the vocals being very grim yet high pitched black metal screams.
Dark sounding melodies can also b e heard in some of the guitar riffing while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful as well as the synths that are mixed in the heavier sections of the songs gives the music more of an atmospheric feeling and the music also brings in a great amount of 90's and early 2000's influences, clean vocals can also be heard briefly and a couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Ljain plays a style of occult black metal that is very raw and atmospheric sounding, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics a re written in Icelandic and cover Occultism themes.
In my opinion Ljain are a very great sounding raw and atmospheric occult black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Svartigaldur" "Endasalmar" and "Med blodi pinu". 8 out of 10.
