Djevelkult are a band from Norway that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Nar Avgrunnen Apnes" which will be released in May by Saturnal Records.
Grim black metal s creams start off the album along with some fast riffs that also use a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats to give the songs a more raw feeling as well as a great amount of blast beats while the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave style.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark yet melodic fashion while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them along with some fist wave influences also being added into certain sections of the recording as well as the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when the music slows down some depressive elements can also be heard as well as some of the tracks being long and epic in length.
Djevelkult plays a style of black metal that is very raw, traditional and old school in the 90's Norwegian tradition, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English and Norwegian and cover death, darkness and blasphemy themes.
In my opinion Djevelkult are a very great sounding old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Atomic Holocaust" "An Evil Unheard Of" and "Vredeskvad". 8 out of 10.
