Kuilu are a band from Finland that plays a very melancholic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Monumentii" which was released by Deviant Records.
Acoustic guitar playing starts off the album along with some melodic guitar leads a few seconds later along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and when vocals a re brought into the music they are mostly depressive black metal screams as well as all of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the music while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the tracks a more raw feeling as well as the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music also adds in some atmospheric and post metal influences.
Kuilu plays a style of black metal that is very melancholic and atmospheric sounding with a touch of doom metal, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics are written in Finnish and cover depressive and melancholic themes.
In my opinion Kuilu are a very great sounding melancholic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Madot" and "Monumentti". 8 out of 10.
