Cancer are a band from Australia that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Into The Heartless Silence" which will be released on July 28th by Throats Productions.
Drum beats start off the album along with some powerful sounding bass guitars a few seconds later which also takes the music into a heavier direction along with the riffs also bringing in a decent amount of melody while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched depressive black metal screams.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the music also gets very dissonant and technical at times along with the tracks also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Clean vocals can also be heard at times on a few tracks while guitar solos and leads are done in a very modern atmospheric style when they are utilized along with one song also introducing clean playing onto the recording, on the second half of the album all of the tracks are very long and epic in length and as the album progresses synths can also be heard briefly.
Cancer creates another recording that remains true to the atmospheric and depressive style of black metal from their previous release while showing a great amount of progress as musicians, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark, depressive and mythological themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Cancer and if you are a fan of depressive black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ad Nauseam" "Apherisis" and "Abacination". 8 out of 10.
