A Forest Of Stars are a band from the United Kingdom that plays a psychedelic and avant garde form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Grave Mounds And Grave Mistakes" which will be released in September by Prophecy Productions.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album which also introduces synths onto the recording while acoustic guitars can also be heard at times along with some psychedelic elements being added into certain sections of the recording and after awhile the music goes into a heavier direction.
Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams while the faster sections of the songs also use a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the songs a more raw feeling along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Stringed instruments are also utilized at times while spoken word parts are also added into some parts of the music along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful as well as the music getting very avant garde and experimental at times, female vocals a re also added onto some of the tracks and at times the vocals get very depressive and as the album progresses elements of ambient are also added into the music.
A Forest Of Stars plays a style of black metal that is very progressive, psychedelic and avant garde sounding while also having their raw and aggressive moments, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics are inspired by the writings of William Blake while also touching on philosophical, occult, nature and abstract themes.
In my opinion A Forest of Stars are a very great sounding psychedelic and avant garde black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Precipice Pirouette" "Children of the Night Soul" and "Decomposing Diety Dancehall". 8/5 out of 10.
