Skyforest are a band from Russia that plays an atmospheric form of post black metal but on this recording goes into more of an acoustic folk music direction and this is a review of their 2018 ep "Harmony" which will be released in October as a joint effort between Casus Belli Musica and Beverina.
Nature sounds start off the ep along with some acoustic guitars which also use a great amount of finger picking and full chords to give the songs more of a folk music feeling along with some symphonic elements also being utilized at times as well as the vocals being mostly done in a clean style.
Black metal s creams can also be heard briefly along with a brief use of electric guitars while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style as w ell as mixing in shoegaze and post rock elements on one track along with some spoken word parts also being used briefly.
On this recording Skyforest goes into more of an acoustic folk direction while still having influences of black metal, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover melancholy themes.
In my opinion Skyforest plays a very great style of acoustic folk music which still adds in a touch of post black metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Calm" and "Where i Belong". 8 out of 10.
