Moonfrost are a band from Switzerland that plays a unique blend of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2018 album "III".
Lo-fi guitar riffing starts off the album while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them along with the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams and after awhile the music starts getting heavier along with the riffs also bringing in some dark and dissonant melodies at times.
Some of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats that give the songs more of a raw feeling along with the solos and leads giving the songs more of an old school style when they are utilized.
Clean playing is also utilized at times which also gives the tracks more of a progressive edge as the album progresses the music also starts bringing in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while one track also adds in a small amount of spoken words and melodic chants and elements of blues and slide guitars can also be heard in the closing song.
Moonfrost plays a style of black metal that is very modern and different than most bands of this genre, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness, sorrow, cold and winter themes.
In my opinion Moonfrost are a very great sounding unique blend of black metal and if you are looking for something very original, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Too Drugged To Dream" "Doors Of Perception" and "Thorns For A Dying Day". 8 out of 10.
