Unseen Abyss are an international duo with members from France and Russia that plays a very violent, atmospheric and gothic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 ep "Blackbird" which will be released on Halloween by Les Creations Underground.
Rain, thunder and nature sounds start off the ep along with some acoustic guitars a few seconds later before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction which also introduces high pitched black metal screams onto the recording while the keyboards add in atmospheric and gothic elements.
When tremolo picking is utilized it gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the guitar leads also add in a decent amount of melody along with a brief use of operatic female vocals and spoken word parts as well as one of the tracks being very long and epic in length, at times the music gets very experimental and they also bring in an instrumental as the ep progresses and the songs also stick mostly to a mid tempo style.
Unseen Abyss plays a style of black metal that is very raw, violent and mid tempo sounding while also mixing in some gothic and atmospheric elements, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover sadness, hatred and sickness themes.
In my opinion Unseen Abyss are a very great sounding violent, atmospheric and gothic black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Here Comes the Rain" and "Ultraviolent Black Metal". 8 out of 10.
