Shadow's Mortuary are a band from Finland that plays a very straight forward and melancholic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Tulen Valtakuntu" which will be released on November 25th by Purity Through Fire.
Clean playing, synths and nature sounds start off the album before going into more of a heavier direction while the faster sections of the music also use a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling while the vocals a re mostly high pitched black metal screams.
Dark sounding melodies can also be heard in the guitar riffing while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them as well as the music also mixing in depressive elements at times and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style.
Shadow's Mortuary plays a style of black metal that is very straight forward and melancholic sounding, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Finnish and cover death and anti Christianity themes.
In my opinion Shadow's Mortuary are a very great sounding straight forward and melancholic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Raatojen Kuningas" "Untentuoja" "Hirttokoysien Juhla" and "Labyrintti". 8 out of 10.
