Thecodontion are a duo from Italy that plays a prehistoric mixture of war, black and death metal with some touches of grindcore and this is a review of their 2019 7 inch "Jurassic" which will be released in March as a joint effort between Xenoglossy Productions, Wooaaargh and Glossolalia Records.
A very powerful bass guitar starts off the ep and also takes the place of a regular guitar as the lead instrument. When the music speeds up it brings in more of war metal style which also introduces blast beats onto the recording while also mixing in a great amount of grindcore elements.
Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams while the songs also bring in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. A lot of death metal influences can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording as well as a touch of thrash and the songs also manage to capture a lot of brutality with bass guitars, drums and vocals alone.
Thecodonition plays a musical style that takes war, black and death metal and mixes them together with some elements of grindcore and thrash to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover dinosaurs, fossils, paleontology and prehistoric themes.
In my opinion Thecodonition are a very great sounding prehstoric mixture of war, black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Normannognathus wellnhoferi (Crests)" and "Breviparopus taghbaloutensis (Legacy of the Trackmaker Unknown)". 8 out of 10.
