Revenant Marquis are a solo project from Wales that has had an album reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very raw and ;lo-fi form of vampyric black metal and this is a review of his 2019 album "Polterngeyst" which was released by Death Kvlt Productions.
A very dark and lo-fi atmosphere starts off the album along with some melodic guitar leads before adding in heavier riffing. Vocals are mostly tortured sounding black metal screams and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
At times the music gets very ritualistic sounding while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. The songs also add in a decent amount of 90's influences along with the synths also adding in an ambient and atmospheric style when they are utilized.
A couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length while a couple of the tracks are instrumentals and as the album progresses the synths also capture the atmosphere of a classic horror movie. The production sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover vamprism, paranormal and occultism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Revenant Marquis and if you are a fan of raw and lo-fi vampiric black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Rites of the Bloodline" "Sovereign of The Origin" and "Phantoms Have A right To Their Children". 8 out of 10.
