Deorc Absis Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Deorc Absis is basically a studio project with members of Italian brutal death metal bands Logic Of Denial and Sickening. It's a black metal project at its core, yet open to different registers and languages.

2.You have an ep coming out in May, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

"The nothingness transfiguration" is a single track divided into three movements. Our style is a blend of black and death metal, with a touch of Schoenberg-style flavor, both into song structures and through the use of Viola and Violin. The result, to our ears, is a slightly dissonant mixture of black metal vehemence and death metal-ish riffing.

3.Most of the other members are also in other bands, what is it that you bring into the music of 'Deorc Absis' that you are not able to do with your other groups?

We all love to experiment and grow with our former bands; but, since we all found ourselves to be big Deathspell Omega fans, we tried to join forces into something new and unrelated to them - and not necessarily structured on a brutal death metal basis.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

We focus on a philosophical outlook on evolution, matter and consciousness. Our expression of atheism is not romantic or metaphysical; we try to explore a materialistic view on it, trying to outline the classic topic related to the relationship between man and nature.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Deorc Absis'?

It's a mixture between ancient English and Latin, and it basically means "dark arc".

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

We love the work provided by Misanthropic-Art, it's a simple yet so powerful representation of nature, which outlines its power and its transience at the same time.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

We're a studio project. No shows played, no stage performance.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans once the ep is released?

No, since we're a studio band. But this project is in constant evolution and we couldn't tell if the stage dimension will be a part of it or not.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and death metal that have heard it so far?

The response has been great so far. Can't wait for the EP to be released and to share it as much as possible.

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

Both bands are working on their new albums right now - 4th effort for both.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

I think we'll try to focus better on our own voice. Expect a further research into progressive structures and bleak atmospheres, maintaining our vitriolic assault intact.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Deathspell Omega is our biggest influence without a doubt, along with bands like Dodecahedron, Abyssal, Devouring Star. Also, "cosmic" death metal (Demilich, Nocturnus, Morbid Angel, Blood Incantation, Morbus Chron, Voidspawn, Ctheill'ist...) played a great part into our writing process, along with classical music (Shostakovich and Schoenberg in particular).

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

We would like to thank you for giving us time and space to say something about this project, and Redefining Darkness Records for believing in it.
