K.F.R are a solo project from France that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very raw and lo-fi mixture of occult black metal and dark ambient with some choirs and this is a review of his 2019 album "Demonologue" which will be released on May 31st by Purity Through Fire.
Ritualistic sounding drones start off the album along with some whispered incantations a few seconds later before going into more of a heavier musical direction. Synths can only be heard briefly while spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams while the music also captures a lo-fi atmosphere at times and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very chaotic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also mixing choirs in with the heavier sections of the music at times. A small amount of dark sounding melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing while elements of ambient can also be heard at times, all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. The production sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover Demonology along with some inspirations from the writings of Jacques Collin de Plancy.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from K.F.R and if you are a fan of lo-fi occult black metal and dark ambient, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Invocation" "Azazel" and "Lucifer". 8/5 out of 10.
