This is a review of a split ep between Seattle, Washington's Nihtwintre and Calgary, Alberta, Canada's Albanach ar Dheis which was released by Epicurus Records and we will start off the review with Albanach ar Dheis a solo project that plays an atmospheric form of black metal.
His side of the split starts out with a very melodic and atmospheric sound while synths can also be heard in the background. Both of his tracks are very long and epic in length along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of blast beats. Acoustic guitars can also be heard briefly as well the music also adding in a brief use of clean vocals and the songs also bring back some of the 90's synth style of black metal and the tremolo picking also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in French and cover historical Scottish events.
In my opinion Albanach ar Dheis are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out his side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Mons Grapius".
Next up is Nihtwintre a solo project that plays an atmospheric form of occult black metal.
His side of the split starts out with some drum beats and melodic guitar leads while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
At times the music gets very atmospheric sounding along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and the closing track is long and epic in length. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Necromancy, Occultism and Sorrow themes.
In my opinion Nihtwintre are a very great sounding atmospheric occult black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out his side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "The Tragic Path Of The Necromancer".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and i would recommend it to all fans of atmospheric and occult black metal. 8/5 out of 10.
