Adragard are a band from Italy that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Through Funeral Shadows" which was released by Perkun Records.
Classical guitars start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black emtal screams. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
The music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era along with the guitar leads being done in a very distorted yet melodic style. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the riffs also add in a small amount of melody at times.
Clean pagan vocals can also be heard in certain sections of the recording as well as acoustic guitars also being added on some of the later tracks along with one song also introducing whispered vocals onto the album. all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them and the album closes with a cover of Mayhem's "Freezing Moon". The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover heathen/pagan mythology, dark forces, winter and Armageddon themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Adragard and of you are a fan of old school black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Father Serpent" "Unholy Gospel" and "Toxic Demeneted Funeral". 8 out of 10.
