Marrasmieli are a band from Finland that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very melodic form of pagan black metal with some elements of folk music and this is a review of their 2020 album 'Between land And Sky" which will be released on January 27th by Naturmacht Productions.
A nature orientated intro starts off the album while also introducing flutes onto the recording which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black emtal screams along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody as well a s a great portion of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
Folk music elements are also utilized at times along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Acoustic guitars and synths are also added into certain sections of the recording and as the album progresses a brief use of spoken word parts and clean pagan vocals can also be heard,. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English and Finnish and cover paganism and nature themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Marrasmieli and if you are a fan of melodic pagan black metal with some folk music elements, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Embrace The Eternal" and "The Ardent Passage". 8 out of 10.
