Obscure Relic are a band from Brazil that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 ep "First Black Communion" which will be released be released in August by Helldprod Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the ep along with a brief use of synths before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave era.
The vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also capturing a very violent and dark atmosphere as well as being very heavily rooted in the classic European style.
Obscure Relic plays a style of black metal that is very raw and melodic in the 90's second wave tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness, evil and occult themes.
In my opinion Obscure Relic are a very great sounding old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The First Black Communion" and "Enter The Infernal Realms". 8 out of 10.
