Nexul are a band from El Paso, Texas that plays an occult mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2020 ep "Scythed Wings Of Poisonous Decay" which will be released in December by Iron Bonehead Productions.
A very dark and ritualistic sounding intro start off the ep along with some synths and demonic voices a few seconds later while spoken word parts can also be heard briefly before going into a heavier direction. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very chaotic yet dark, melodic and old school style.
Bestial death metal growls are also a very huge part of the recoding while black metal screams are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can also be heard along with the riffs also adding in some 90's style dark sounding melodies.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some elements of doom/death metal also being added into the slower sections of the songs. Some of the faster sections of the songs also show an influence of war metal, spoken word parts and synths also make a return on some of the later tracks and when tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the music more of a raw feeling. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are a concept album devoted to Samael as The Angel Of Death.
In my opinion Nexul are a very great sounding occult mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Reflected In Glaring Eyes" "M.S.R" and "RapedBe Demons/Luziferion". 8 out of 10.
