The Suns Journey Through The Night are a solo project from the United Kingdom that has recently have music reviewed in this zine and on this recording plays a very raw form of ambient black metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "Crawling Nebula Of Dismal Light" which will be released in December by Repose Records.
Ambient style synths start off the album while also using a variety of many different sounding keys and mixing in with the heavier sections of the music at times. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the faster sections of the music also add in a lot of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams while the music also adds in a decent amount of 90's influences but keeps it modern at the same time. Al of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with the solos and leads also being done in a very dark and melodic style.
At times the music also gets very epic and atmospheric sounding along with one of the tracks also being an ambient instrumental as well as adding in a brief use of spoken word parts and throughout the recording you can also hear some quest performances from members of Revenant Marquis, Abduction and Crimson Throne, as the album progresses a brief use of clean vocals can also be heard and all of the musical instruments also have a verypowerful sound to them. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness and space themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from The Suns Journey Through The Night and if you are a fan of dark ambient and raw black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In The Grasp Of The Labyrinthian Master" and "Burning In The Black".8 out of 10.
