WinterMoonShade Interview

 

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band? 

We grew up in the litoral west coast in Portugal. Surrounded by mountains, trees and nearby 

the ocean. Our desire is to drift into sound landscapes that reflect nature tranquility and human 

interactions towards it.  Also some reflections from nightmares and emotional fields.

2.You have your first full length coming out in December, can you tell us a little bit more

   about the musical style you went for on the recording?

It was a journey from one song to the next. We roam as the tides of inspirations push us through.

Starting with some brief ideas everything aligned with our personal feedback into it.

A few months later when Black Spark Records took us in that was when we discovered that people

label us as the Melodic Black Metal genre. 

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with 

   the music? 

Nature and human behaviour. Emotions, thoughts and feelings are the most content in the lyrics

we wrote so far. Mythical creatures and legends that fire up the imaginary covered in deep fog

and distortion. Perceptions from the past in comparison with nowadays lifestyle. These are

some paths we walked through.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'WinterMoonShade'? 

"WinterMoonShade" is a name inspired by a feeling that we get when we are 

camping near a waterfall in the surroundings of our home town.

The place is covered by trees that slightly let the moonlight in and the shadows

turn that into a magical place. So the name came up just like that.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album

   cover? 

The cover is a raw idea of staring across the woods in a mystical environment that lights up

the imagination as we can see into the branches with a slightly haze wrapping the landscape.

It was one of the first steps towards the making of the album and we decided to keep it as

simple as that.  

6.Once the pandemic is over with are there any plans for live shows or tours? 

All of this situation crossed our path as everyone else's. For now the idea of touring is in a

sleepy mode. We are looking forward to hearing about the people's reaction to the release of 

our debut album in the first place. Secondly the focus is on writing more music and improving

our skills and personalities as musicians. When all these black clouds are gone we guess that

something will come up naturally. 

7.The new album is coming out on 'Black Spark Records', can you tell us a little bit more

   about this label? 

We reach Robert and Tim at Black Spark Records  when we first finished a 6 track demo and

they get back to us with positive feedback about our music. With open arms they invite us 

to join their family in the label and gladly we signed with this young and growing team.

8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal

   that have heard it so far? 

Mostly the reactions are in a positive tuning and our expectations as our name and music spreads 

is to get more fans of Black Metal genre to enjoy and share it all over.

9.Do any of the band members currently participate in or have been a part of other 

   bands or musical projects?  

Yes. Fenrir our bass player, also has two other bands. Falcata de Fogo (Dark Folk lusitano) and

O Cerco also in Black Metal genre.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future? 

The uncertain paths of music can lead us anywhere the inspiration comes. Our brand new 

songs besides the debut album are growing in a most consistent and deeper alliance with

our present identity that is evolving into a much darker nature connection.   

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your               

music and also what are you listening to nowadays?  

 Mostly we dig into Black and Death Metal genres and bands across the years. Names like

Cradle of Filth, (our countrymen) MoonSpell, Immortal, Dissection, Dimmu Borgir and so on...

come easily to refer to our main influences. We still listening to these bands and many more in

the Black/Death Metal genres but also a lot of Folk and Fusion Music bands like Wardruna, 

Heilung or (our countrymen) Urze de Lume.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts? 

Yes we would like to message all the readers with some positive words of respect for the

music and musicians. Share bands work to aid diffusion. Buy the albums so they can be able 

to keep making more music. When the world wide situation is solved go to the shows and 

support live music. And most of all respect each other and Mother Nature. Stay Metal!
