Carnal Misanthropy are a duo from Greece that plays a very raw and nihilistic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 ep "Release the Wolf" which was released by Askio Productions.
Battle sounds start off the ep before going into a heavier musical direction while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies and the solos and leads also add in a great amount of melody.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. The music also adds in a decent amount of 90's influences along with the vocals also getting deep sounding in some parts of the recording as well as some clean playing and whispers also being utilized briefly on a couple of songs,.
the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a brief use of nature sounds as well as one track also adding in a small amount of spoken word parts. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover war, nature, nihilism and misanthropy themes.
In my opinion Carnal Misanthropy are a very great sounding raw and nihilistic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Release the Wolf" and "Nocturnal Visions Of The Ancient Monument". 8 out of 10.
