Autarcie are a band from France that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a very melodic and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Apogee.Ivresse.Agonie" which will be released on April 30th by Purity Through Fire.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album along with some bell sounds and synths while medieval style battles can also be heard briefly before going into a heavier direction which also introduces grim black metal screams into the music as well as the riffs also adding in a great amount of melody.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them and a lot of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
The music also adds in a great amount of old school influences along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Synths also make a return on some of the later tracks as well as one song also bringing back the battle sounds of the intro and also adding in a brief use of spoken word samples, when guitar leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style and elements of folk music can also be heard towards the end. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in French and cover Past Times Of The Gaelic Territory and France.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Autarcie and if you are a fan of raw and melodic black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nation" and "Apogee.Ivresse.Agonie". 8 out of 10.
