Bloodshed Walhalla are a solo project from Italy that plays an epic form of Viking metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Second Chapter" which was released by Hellbones Records.
Epic sounding keyboards and ocean sounds start off the album while spoken word parts can also be heard in some parts of the recording. When acoustic guitars are utilized they also bring elements of folk music into the songs and when the album goes into a heavier direction black metal screams are also very heavily utilized.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. The songs also stick mostly to either a slow or mid tempo direction along with the riffs also adding in a lot of melody and all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Clean Viking vocals can also be heard at times and also show an influence mid 80's to early 90's era Bathory along with some folk instruments also being added into some parts of the recording. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style as well as some choir vocals also being added into certain sections of the recording. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Nordic Themes, Viking Mythology and War themes.
In my opinion Bloodshed Walhalla are a very great sounding epic Viking metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Reaper (Baldr's Dreams)" and "After the End". 8 out of 10.
