Finland's Impaled Nazarene have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of a nuclear style of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Eight Headed Serpent" which will be released in May by Osmose Productions.
Apocalyptic sounding synths start off the album along with some spoken word samples a few seconds later before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams while the music also recaptures some of their 90's era rawness.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When back up shouts are utilized they also give the songs more of a hardcore punk vibe along with the music also showing an influence of classic era Motorhead at times as well as some of the riffing also adding in a small amount of dark sounding melodies and as the album progresses a brief use of demonic sounding growls can also be heard.
On this recording Implaed Nazrene go back to a very raw, aggressive and punk influenced form of black metal as well as capturing a lot of aggression that has been messing from the last previous releases. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Satanism, Goat Worship, Blasphemy, Anti Christianity, Necromancy, War and Anti Flat Earthers themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album form Impaled Nazarene and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Goat of Mendes" "The Nonconformists" "Unholy Necromancy" and "Foucault Pendulum". 8 out of 10.
