DARGOR – Interview by Occult Black Metal Zine
Answering: Michał Kustra (lead guitar, vocal and keyboard)
1. Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
Answer: Hello everyone! Since releasing our latest album we have been composing and practising some new stuff. The five new songs are already written and we start to play them on rehearsals. We have also incorporated the new band member, Dawid Warchoł who plays on the keyboard. Before, we had used the keyboard only on recordings.
2. Recently you have released a new album, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
Answer: The new songs are more melodic than the previous ones. A bit more catchy but a bit less dark I think. We didn’t plan it, it’s just happened naturally. The new material will be slightly different again. Similar to the newer songs, melodic and easy to remember but more technical and ambitious.
3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?
Answer: Our lyrics are mostly about the inner descent, dark sides of human nature and soaking into negativity and evil. If we let that process happen and do nothing about it we can destroy our lives and the lives of others.
4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Dargor'?
Answer: It’s just my nickname. I was using it in all local metal bands I’ve played. I took that name from the fictional story written by the metal band Rhapsody. It was the first metal group I was listening to when I was a teenager.
5. Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
Answer: On the cover, you can see the fallen angel. The symbol of choosing evil and fully dedicating to darkness. It relates to all of the lyrics more or less. Symbolizes the final state of descent when there is no turning back.
6. Originally the band started out as a solo project, what was the decision behind expanding into a full line ep?
Answer: After recording the three songs as a one-man project I’ve received the proposition of playing the live show. It was a very nice concert with Furia and Warmia at the Rock Iron Klub, in Krosno. I’ve asked my friends if they wanna play and that’s how everything started. After the show, we decided to record new songs together and continue playing as a regular band.
7. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Answer: We played only a single show. We had some more gigs planned, but shortly after the first one, the COVID pandemic started. At least, the concert in Rock Iron Klub was great and we will always remember it positively. There was a full club of people, the sound was really good and playing it was pure fun. I can feel the energy and adrenaline up to this moment.
8. On the new album you also had some 'Satyricon' and 'Samael' covers, what was the decision behind doing your own version of their songs?
Answer: There are some songs you like so much that listening to them is just not enough. We wanted to play them ourselves, feel their power and become them in one hundred percent. The recording was another part of this experience.
9. The new album was released on 'Kancho Records', how did you get in contact with this label?
Answer: Kancho Records is my own label so there was no need to get in contact. The cooperation with myself is good, there are no conflicts and we gain the entire income from selling CDs. I think we’ll continue working together in future.
10. On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
Answer: The most of comments and reactions were positive which makes us happy. Quite a lot of people have sent us good opinions and bought the physical albums. Sometimes our newest material is too melodic for the traditional, Norwegian black metal fans. On the other hand, people who don’t listen to black metal at all often find it interesting which is cool.
11. What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Answer: We have all played in a couple of local metal bands before. At the moment we actively participate only in Dargor. Me and Damian Muszyński are still members of Scarlet Moon, the other black metal project but for now, not so much happens there.
12. Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Answer: I think that our band will continue the direction defined by the latest record. We’ll still compose the melodic, atmospheric and aggressive black metal. For sure the new songs will differ a bit, but the main convention and style should stay similar.
13. What are you listening to nowadays?
Answer: I listen mostly to metal, almost all of its subgenres. When I am tired of the heavy sound I turn on some ambient, calm electronic or movie soundtracks. The other bandmates are still metalheads too. Metal music is the biggest part of their playlists.
14. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Answer: Greetings to all who is reading this interview. Have a nice day and stay true to your passions!
