Taakeferd are a band from Norway that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Mitt septer for et tusenårsrike" which was released by Apocalyptic Empire Records.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Most of the vocals are high pitched black metal screams while the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's nordic style as well as the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them. 80's hard rock/metal influences can also be heard briefly along with the vocals also adding in a semi melodic yet rough style.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also remain true to an old school style and on later tracks go into more of a melodic direction along with the music also capturing the raw energy of punk rock at times. as well as some of the riffing also adding in elements of thrash metal, throat singing can also be heard briefly on a couple of songs.
All of the music also sticks to a heavier direction and as the album progresses a brief use of death metal growls can also be heard as well as the closing track also adding in a brief use of clean vocals. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Norwegian and cover death and vanity, the ethical and categorical limits of human existence, and the boundaries of truth and knowledge.
In my opinion Taakeferd are a very great sounding old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mitt septer for et tusenårsrike" "Ørkenfødsel" "Sminket i aske" and "Sørger over sine". 8 out of 10.
