Sweden's Ofermod have returned with a new recording which continues the occult black metal style of previous releases and this is a review of their 2021 album "Mysterium Iniquitatis" which will be released in December as a joint effort between Shadow and Regain Records.
Stringed instruments start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style along with some blast beats also being added into the faster sections of the songs.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams. Elements of death metal can also be heard at times along with a great portion of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and choirs and clean vocals are also added into some parts of t he album.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the riffs also adding in a great amount of melody as well as the music also being rooted in a classic European style and the closing track also adds in a brief use of ritualistic spoken word parts. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Luciferianism, Chaos-Gnosticism, Qliphotic Magick and Sitra Ahra themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ofermod and if you are a fan of this band, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mysterium Iniquitatis" "When the Blacksmith Killed The Shepherd" and "Loyal To Belial". 8/5 out of 10.
