Primordial Serpent are a solo project from Winnepeg, Manitoba, Canada that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2021 ep "Under The Sign Of The Bloodmoon".
A very dark sounding intro starts off the ep along with a brief use of synths which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling and the tracks are also heavily rooted in the 90's second wave era.
Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal screams while growls can also be heard in some parts of the recording. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the solos and leads also remaining true to an old school style as well as the riffs also adding in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies.
A couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and as the ep progresses a brief use of acoustic guitars can also be heard along with all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover nature, mythology, fantasy and self reflection themes.
In my opinion Primordial Serpent are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Host Of Nightmares" and "Confined To An Inescapable Dream". 8 out of 10.
