Greece's Prometheus have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of an occult mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Aornos" which will be released on June 17th by I, Voidhanger Records.
Greek folk instruments and synths start off the album which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music at times. Vocals are a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody and blast beats are also added into the faster sections of the songs.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while clear vocals can also be heard on some of the tracks. At times the music also adds in some atmospheric and symphonic touches and most of the songs are also very long and epic in length.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style along with the faster riffing also adding in a decent amount of tremolo picking which also gives the album more of a raw feeling as well as a couple of songs also bringing in a brief use of spoken word parts, whispers can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the myth of Charon and river Lethe.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Prometheus and if you are a fan of occult black and death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Devouring Chasm" and "Vessel Of Empiricism". 8 out of 10.
