The Anointing Maelstrom are a solo project from Madison, Wisconsin that plays a mixture of war and blackened death metal and this is a review of his 2022 compilation album "Storm Of Steel-Scorched. Earth. Annihilation" which was released by Extreme Chaos Records adn consists of his 2022 ep's.
A war orientated intro starts off the compilation before going into a very dark yet heavy musical direction. Vocals are mostly bestial death metal growls while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of war metal elements, tremolo picking and brutal blast beats which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
High pitched black metal screams can also be heard at times while the solos and leads are also done in a very chaotic style when they are utilized. Throughout the compilation you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the riffing being done on power chords
One of the songs is also a very apocalyptic sounding instrumental along with the tracks on the second ep also bringing in a very brutal mixture of war and blackened death metal as well as adding in a small amount of dark sounding melodies. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover death, chaos and natural disasters.
In my opinion The Anointing Maelstrom are a very great sounding mixture of war and blackened death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hell On Earth" "Storm Of Steel" and "Scorched Earth Pt. 2". 8 out of 10.
