Depressive Witches are a duo from France that plays black'n'roll with elements of heavy metal and classic rock and this is a review of their 2022 album "Distant Kingdom" which will be released on November 25th by WormHoleDeath Records.
Winter sounds start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while the vocals ar e mostly grim sounding black metal screams. Classic style melodies can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording along with the mid tempo sections of t he songs being more rooted in black'n'roll.
Clear vocals can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while the solos and leads bring in more of a melodic classic rock style. A couple of the tracks are also long and epic in length along with the album also adding in a small amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
Z couple of the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and at times a small amount of punk rock touches can be heard along with the closing song adding in acoustic guitars and folk music influences. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover battles and exploration of new worlds.
In my opinion Depressive Witches are a very great sounding black'n'roll band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In The Hall Of The Seeping King" "Pit Of Goblins" and "Cancel Your Wedding And Fuck The Witch". 8 out of 10.
