Gravkvade are a band from Sweden that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of depressive black metal and funeral doom metal and this is a review of their 2018 demo compilation "Kold|Sorg" which was released in 2018 by Death prayer Records and consists of their 2017 and 2018 demo's.
Water sounds and dark soundscapes start off the compilation while synths can also be heard briefly along with a small amount of whispered vocals before going into a heavier direction. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark y et melodic style and most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Vocals are mostly high pitched yet depressive sounding black metal screams while elements of funeral doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with the faster sections of the tracks also adding in a decent amount of blast b eats.
Ritualistic chants can also be heard briefly along with the tremolo picking also giving the music more of a raw feeling when they are utilized as well as the compilation also having its atmospheric moments. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Swedish and cover sorrow and depression themes.
In my opinion this is a very great sounding collection from Gravkade and if you are a fan of depressive black metal and funeral doom metal, you should check out t his compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Evigt Sjukande-Burtorn" and "Valv Av Tomhet". 8 out of 10.
