Hetman are a solo project from Ukraine that has had music reviewed before in this zine with their previous album being more rooted in a black metal style and on this recording plays a folk and ethnic music influenced form of pagan metal with some blackened touches and this is a review of his self released 2022 album "Black heart" which will be released in December.
Melodic riffing starts off the album along with some angry shouts a few seconds later while the solos and leads also add in a lot of melody. Folk instruments can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
Clear pagan vocals can also b e heard at times while acoustic guitars can also be heard on some of the tracks. Some of the vocals also add in a grim black metal approach along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of blast beats and some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Nature sounds are also added on some of the tracks along with the music also being a lot less black metal influenced than the previous release reviewed in this zine as well as one song also adding in a brief use of whispered vocals, death metal growls can also be heard briefly and most of the album sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the call of people to humanity and defense of nature- forests, lakes and rivers from pollution and destruction.
In my opinion this is another decent sounding recording from Hetman and while some black metal fans might not like the new direction, I can see this album appealing more to fans of folk and melodic pagan metal. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Rusty nail" "Breathe" "Dawn, Eyes of Spring Night" and "White Threads, black needles". 7/5 out of 10.
