Panzerwar where a solo project from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada that played a very raw and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of his 2019 album "Ulv Og Mann" which was released by Death Prayer Records.
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the album while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. The songs also add in a decent mixture of both old school and modern influences along with the tremolo picking also giving the music more of a raw feeling when they are utilized.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style while the faster sections of the songs also add in a lot of blast beats. Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them.
One track also adds in a brief use of synths and Gregorian chants as well as the spoken word parts also giving the music more of a ritualistic feeling when they are introduced into the music, nature sounds, demonic voices and clean playing can also be heard briefly as the recording progresses. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Paganism, Mythology, History and Death themes.
In my opinion Panzerwar are a very great sounding raw and melodic black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "White Walls Shall Burn" "True Northern Terror" "Into The Depths Of The Dark Woods" and "Solitude & Suicide". 8 out of 10.
