Slovenia's duo Snøgg has returned with a new recording which shows the music going fore more of an experimental style of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Meltdown" which will be released on November 18th by Terraformer Research Facilities and consists mostly of re-mixed songs from previous releases.
A very distorted yet heavy sound starts off the album while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with some power electronics and noise also being added in the background at times and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is added into the faster riffing they also give the songs more of a raw feeling while the music also has its atmospheric moments. At times the album also gets very experimental sounding along with all of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and spoken word parts are also utilized briefly.
Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Ambient style synths are also added on some of the tracks as well as some growls also being utilized at times and melodic chants are also added on the closing track. The production sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover the 6 areas of the Earth that are mostly covered in snow.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Snøgg and if you are a fan of experimental black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Artica' and "Antarctica". 8 out of 10.
