This is a review of another recording from Mexico's solo project Nostalghia which continues the atmospheric and depressive style of post black metal and the album was released in 2022 by Flowing Downward and called "Au milieu de I'hiver" which was released by Flowing Downward.
Saxophones start off the album while keyboards can also be heard in certain sections of the recording. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can b e heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic post metal style.
Vocals are mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the clean playing also giving the songs more of a progressive feeling when they are utilized.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding along with the album also going for more of a modern black metal direction as well as the vocals also having their deeper moments, the music is also a lot more raw and aggressive than the previous albums reviewed but still retaining all the melody and atmosphere. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover nature and melancholy themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Nostalghia and if you are a fan of atmospheric and depressive post black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Elegy" and "Scent Of Sleep And Tears". 8 out of 10.
