This is a review of another recording from Michigan's solo project Wraithlord which shows him doing cover versions and adding his own take on Lifelover, Lycia, Christian Death, Circle Of Ouroboros and Leviathan songs and the ep was self released in 2022 and called "Summer Graves".
Spoken word samples start off the ep before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. All of the instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and the vocals are mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams.
Keyboards can also be heard on some of the tracks while some of the songs also add in a small amount of clean playing. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with one song also adding in programmed beats and darkwave elements and acoustic guitars can also b e heard briefly.
All of the songs also sound very different from each other along with one song also adding in touches of post punk and deathrock as well as one song also adding in a brief use of acoustic guitars and eo-folk touches and on the closing track the music also adds in some fast tremolo picking, blast b eats and growls which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover depression and melancholy themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Wraithlord and if you are a fan of atmospheric black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Romeo's Distress" and "Heir To The Noose of Ghoul". 8 out of 10.
