This is a review of a split ep between U.S.A's Vermineux and France's Prieuré which will be released in February by Purity Through Fire and we will start off the review with Vermineux a solo project that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a very raw and epic form of black metal.
His side of the split starts out with some raw tremolo picking before going into a faster direction which also utilizes a great amount of blast beats while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and the music is heavily rooted in the 90's era.
Throughout his side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the riffs also add in a small amount of melody. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also remain true to an old school style as well as one of the tracks also being very long and epic in length, Gregorian chants can also be heard briefly and his side of the split closes with a Vlad Tepes cover. The production sounds very dark and raw and the lyrics cover 14th century themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Vermineux and if you are a fan of raw and epic black metal, you should check out his side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRAKC "Ashes".
Next up is Prieuré a solo project that has had music reviewed before in t his zine and plays a very raw, dissonant and epic form of black metal.
His side of the split starts out with some field recordings before going into more of a heavier, melodic and dissonant direction. The solos and leads also add in a great amount of melody while one of his tracks is also very long and epic in length and angry shouts can also be heard at times.
All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the faster sections of t he song also add in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the song more of a raw feeling. Angry sounding black metal screams can also b e heard at times., acoustic guitars can also be heard briefly The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover French History.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Prieuré and if you are a fan of raw, epic and dissonant black metal you should check out his side of the split.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of raw and epic black metal. 8 out of 10.
