This is a review of a split album between Canada's Graal and U.S.A's Ritual Cairn which will be released in March by Balor's Eye Productions and we will start off the review with Graal a solo project that has been featured before in this zine and plays a raw, avant garde and occult mixture of black, death emtal and punk.
His side of the split starts out with soem dark soundscapes and avant garde keyboards along with some powerful sounding bas s guitars a few seconds late which also takes the music into more of a heavier direction. The only track that is presented on his side of the recording is also over 14 minutes in length.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark yet melodic style while t he vocals are done in more of a first wave black metal style. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast b eats can b e heard along with the song also bringing in elements of punk, death metal growls can also be heard at times. The production sounds very dark and raw and the lyrics cover Saturnian Occultism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Graal and if you are a f an of avant garde, raw and occult black metal with elements of punk and death metal, you should check out his side of the split.
Next up is Ritual Cairn a solo project that plays an occult mixture of black and doom metal.
His side of the split starts out with a very dark yet heavy sound while his only track is also over 16 minutes in length. Blast beats can be heard in the faster sections of the song along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and elements of doom metal can b e heard in the slower sections of the track.
All of the musical instruments on his side of the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style along with the vocals being mostly death metal growls and the song also mixes in a great amount of black metal influences, clean playing can also be heard briefly towards the end. The production sounds very dark and heavy and the lyrics cover Occultism themes.
In my opinion Ritual Cairn are a very great sounding occult mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out his side of the split.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of occult black, doom and death metal. 8 out of 10.
