Inferion are a band from Florida that h as been featured before in this zine and on this recording played a raw and melodic mixture of black and death metal with some elements of doom and thrash metal and this is a review of their 1999 album "Given To The Ground" which will be re-issued on February 10th, 2023 and also brings in a few re-recorded bonus tracks.
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the album while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats. Vocals are a mixture of black metal screams and death metal growls along with the tremolo picking in t he fast riffing also giving the songs more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Some of the riffing also shows an influence of thrash metal along with the slower sections of the songs also bringing in elements of doom metal.
A couple of the tracks also introduces clean playing onto the recording along with the music also bringing in the brutal 90's style at times as well a s all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them, one of the songs is also an instrumental. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover death, ceremonial burial and the transformation of flesh to dust.
In my opinion this was another great sounding recording from Inferion and if you are a fan of melodic black and death metal with elements of doom and thrash metal, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Given To The Ground" "Killing Of Life" "When The Fire Dies" and "Further into The Vortex". 8 out of 10.
