Mythraeum are a band from San Diego, California that plays a very technical form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 ep "Halls Of Mythras" which will be released on February 24th.
Classical guitars start off the ep before going into a heavier musical direction while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams along with a few growls along with the riffs also adding in a lot of melody and having t heir technical moments.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When tremolo picking is utilized they also give the songs more of a raw feeling along with all of the musical directions also having a very powerful sound to them, synths can also be heard briefly and a couple of the tracks are also long and epic in length.
Mythraeum plays a style of black metal that is very technical, aggressive melodic and heavily rooted in the classic Scandinavian style. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover esoteric myths of nature, gods, love, hate, death and rebirth.
In my opinion Mythraeum are a very great sounding technical black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Terrestrial Despair". 8 out of 10.
