Altari are a band from Iceland that plays a very progressive, experimental, avant garde and dissonant form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Kröflueldar" which will be released in April by Svart Records.
Drums start off the album along with some heavy riffing a few seconds later while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. At times the music also gets very avant garde sounding as well as the vocals being mostly angry sounding black metal screams that also add in some melodic touches at times.
The music also h as its progressive and experimental moments while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dissonant style along with some spoken word parts also being added on one song.
Clean playing is also added on one of the tracks along with one song also adding in a brief use of female vocals and psychedelic elements, some of the songs are long and epic in length and most of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Icelandic and cover nature themes.
In my opinion Altari are a very great sounding avant garde, dissonant, experimental and progressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Kröflueldar" "Hin eina sanna" and "Grafarþögn". 8 out of 10.
