Zwaard are a musical project from the Netherlands that plays a brooding and subterranean form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 ep "Bloed en Wijn" which was released by Argento Records.
Bell sounds start off the ep along with some melodic guitar solos and leads a few seconds later which also takes the music into a heavier direction. All of the vocals are high pitched black metal screams while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Clear chants can also be heard briefly while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style along with the music also having its minimalistic moments, when keyboards are utilized they also bring in elements of ambient.
Zwaard plays a style of black metal that is very brooding, subterranean and minimalistic sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are based upon the writings of Baudelaire and Rimbaud.
In my opinion Zwaard are a very great sounding brooding and subterranean black metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "II". 8 out of 10.
