Sweden's Grafvitnir has returned with a new recording which continues the melodic style of occult black metal from their previous releases and this is a review of their 2023 album "Into The Outer Wilderness" which will be released in June as a joint effort between Shadow and Regain Records.
A very dark and ritualistic sounding intro starts off the album before going into a heavier musical direction. The riffs also add in a great amount of melody while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
When tremolo picking is added into the faster riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling while the music is also very heavily rooted in the classic Swedish style. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the guitar leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are utilized. One of the tracks is also very long and epic in length and the whole album also sticks to a heavier direction.
On this recording Grafvitnir remains true to the melodic style of occult black metal that they have established on previous releases. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics are written in a mixture of Swedish and English and cover Witchcraft, Occultism and Sacred Rites.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Graftvitnir and if you are a fan of melodic occult black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUD E "Into The Outer Wilderness" "Through The Witchcraft Door" and "Seekers Of Fire". 8 out of 10.
