Loather are a band from Austria that plays an atmospheric mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Eis" which will be released on June 23rd by Vendetta Records.
High pitched black metal screams start off the album along with some heavier riffing a few seconds later. All of the ,musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them While the riffs also adding a decent amount of melody and clean singing can also be heard at times.
Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs while a couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling and the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding along with the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some tracks also bringing in a small amount of clean playing, synths and whispers can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover loss and interpersonal struggle.
In my opinion Loather are a very great sounding atmospheric mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a f an of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Holler Your Name" and "Proper Burial". 8 out of 10.
