This is a review of a split ep between Maine's Floodhag and Montana's Flood hag called "Hagridden Black Metal" which will be released in September by Fiadh Productions and we will start off the review with Floodhag a solo artist that plays a mixture of black emtal and dungeon synth.
Her side of t he split starts out with some dungeon synth style synths before going into a heavier musical direction. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in some blast beats as well as the tremolo picking in the faster riffing also giving the music more of a raw feeling when they are utilized. The production sounds very dark and raw and the lyrics cover the deepest parts of the seas.
In my opinion Floodhag is a very great sounding mixture of black metal and dungeon synth and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Call Up A Storm".
Next up is Lust Hag who returns with a very atmospheric and vampyric style of black metal.
Her side of the split starts out with a very dark yet heavy sound while t he vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal s creams. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
When synths are utilized they also bring in more of an atmospheric touch along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling, the guitar leads also add in some melodies, death metal growls can also b e heard briefly. The production sounds very dark and r aw and the lyrics cover vampirism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Lust Hag and if you are a fan of atmospheric and vampyric black metal, you should check out her side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Flock of bats".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and i would recommend it to all fans of raw and atmospheric black metal, 8 out of 10.
