Netherlands's solo project Gnaw Their Tongues has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of black metal, noise, experimental and industrial and this is a review of his 2023 album "The Cessation of Suffering" which will be released in November by Consouling Sounds.
Gregorian chants start off the album along with some harsh noises and power electronics a few seconds later before going into a heavier direction. Synths and elements of industrial can also be heard at times while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal screams and the music also has its experimental moments.
Clean playing can also be heard briefly while some of the tracks also add in a good amount of programmed beats. A lot of the music also captures the atmosphere of a very disturbing nightmare along with one song also adding in a brief use of spoken word samples, growls are also added in certain sections of the recording as well as one song also adding in a brief use of raw tremolo picking and brutal blast beats.
On this recording Gnaw Their Tongues brings in a very diverse mixture of black metal, experimental, industrial and noise. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the darkest side of human behavior.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Gnaw Their Tongues and if you are a fan of black metal, experimental, industrial and noise, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dreamless" "The Cessation Of Suffering" Vengeful Spirit" and "The Departure of light". 8 out of 10.
